Blacksburg, VA – February 23 2009. Dr. Kevin Creehan PhD., president and co-founder of high-tech engineering firm Schultz-Creehan LLC, has been selected to present at the 21st annual Society for Health Systems Conference and Expo 2009. Employing his extensive knowledge and expertise in industrial engineering, Dr. Creehan will instruct physician leaders, process improvement professionals, professors, and research scientists from across the nation on “Using Lean Techniques to Improve Turnaround Time and First Case Starts in the Operating Room”.

Dr. Creehan’s noteworthy achievements using lean methodology in the healthcare industry include a recent 5-S kaizen event at Montgomery Regional Hospital in Virginia. This event aimed at eliminating unnecessary items, reducing storage space, and improving workflow in the operating room to improve hospital efficiency. Results of the process improvement were substantial, including an increase in hospital capacity, strong culture of improvement, decrease in overall inventory, and improved physician, employee, and patient satisfaction.
As a result of these accomplishments, Creehan’s presentation offers a significant contribution to this year’s SHS conference titled “Transforming Healthcare: Quality, Cost, Safety” which focuses on the latest tools and techniques used by the healthcare industry to improve quality. Workshops offered at the SHS conference will address fundamental quality improvement strategies such as Deming’s 14 principles of management, lean, Six Sigma, teaming methodology, and process improvement. Experienced instructors such as Dr. Creehan will demonstrate their successful implementation of these techniques in real-world situations, conveying the vital skills and information essential for healthcare professionals to transform similar processes.
